The PUFApods project aims to address a global challenge in the aquaculture industry

– the shortage of aquafeed ingredients that supply suitable levels of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA).

PUFApods is studying the use of gammarid amphipods – small shrimp-like crustaceans – to develop a new aquafeed ingredient that delivers LC-PUFA. By converting plant-based food side streams into nutrient-rich biomass, amphipods have the potential to support the successful culture of marine fish and shrimp.
